Looking for the best Oura Ring alternatives? Oura is one of the best health and fitness wearables to have ever hit the shelves. As much as we rave about it, let’s be honest—it’s not for everyone. Whether it’s the ring form factor, the price, or the functionalities you’re not excited about, no need to worry because the market has several alternatives to Oura Ring.

Choosing the Best Alternative to Oura

Before diving into the list, we looked into a few things to help us justify what makes a wearable device a great alternative to the Oura Ring. This list is not limited to smart rings. We took into consideration smartwatches and fitness bands to keep your options wide open. Hence, health monitoring features are at the center of this list.

Purpose

The Oura Ring has a few different functionalities. Knowing what you want to use the ring for is critical for your decision. Is it for tracking sleep? Is it for monitoring the menstrual cycle? Is it for tracking blood oxygen levels?

Integrations

What type of third-party support does the smart ring have? In most health rings, third-party apps like Natural Cycles, Google Fit, and MyFitnessPal, among others. If you are looking for a particular app to use, make sure to check with the ring maker whether they support the app you’re looking for.

Budget

At $299, the Oura Ring is expensive for a tiny wearable, so it does not come as a surprise why many people would look for an alternative. We have a bunch of them on this list, or you can also check out the best Oura Ring dupes.

Here are the best Oura Ring alternatives that you can choose from:

Best Apple Watches
The Apple Watch Series is the world’s bestselling smartwatches. Here are our picks for the best Apple Watches!

The Apple Watch Series is one of the most popular wearable technologies that ever came out of Cupertino in the last 10 years. A lot of Apple fans use the smartwatch as a statement piece, but for health and fitness enthusiasts, there’s more to it than just being a treat to the spectator’s eyes. We use it day in, day out to track our steps, monitor our heart rate, and a host of other functionalities to help improve our health.

However, the device has evolved into a more useful health and fitness companion ever since the first Apple Watch was released in 2015. The most recent models have tons of advanced features incorporated into them, but they cost an arm and a leg. Having said that, you don’t really need to spend hundreds of dollars just to get the more expensive model. Here are the best Apple Watch models you can get to suit your needs and budget.

Apple Watch Series Comparison Chart

This quick comparison chart shows the Apple Watch models head to head based on their health and activity features. After having found the model with the right combo of health tracking capability, you can move on choosing the most suitable display size, cellular connection, memory capacity, color, and so on.

One of the common health and fitness features you can find among all Apple Watch Series models mentioned above include the ability to send notifications when the user experiences low and high heart rates as well as irregular heart rhytms. Sleep tracking capabilities for Apple Watch 3 and later is available in watchOS 9, though very limited. They have GPS, altimeter, emergency SOS, and international emergency calling (except for the Apple Watch 3).

Overall, the health and fitness functionalities of the Apple Watch models don’t have much of a difference. The Apple Watch 6 and 7 have almost the same functionalities and sensors, while 4 and 5 share common things too. That said, you should consider looking at other things as well that make these models differ, including screen display and size, cellular capability, memory capacity, and more.

Apple Watch Alternatives

Apple Watch might be the most advanced and admired wearable for a health and fitness companion. However, it’s not a fit for every budget. There are more affordable , high-quality smartwatch alternatives though. One of them is Fitbit, the iconic brand that has been making great activity tracking wearables since 2009. Read our Fitbit comparison – it compares four Fitbit devices which we think cover the most user requirements with flying colors while retailing for less than Apple Watch!

Garmin has an endless portfolio of robust, high-quality, good looking watches, which could offer a perfect Apple Watch alternative for those outdoors savvy, active users. Best Whoop Alternatives
Fitbit Versa 4, Ultrahuman Ring Air, Amazfit Helio Ring, and Oura Ring are four of the best Whoop alternatives.

Whoop is one of the most widely lauded wearables in health and fitness circles, and rightfully so. Its accuracy and execution of its features make it an impressive device, giving users a comprehensive and reliable picture of their health and fitness. However, Whoop is not for everyone. If you want to consider other health wearables, we rounded up the best Whoop alternatives you may look into.

Whoop 4.0 is a fitness strap designed mainly for tracking activities, sleep, strain, and recovery. It’s safe to say, it’s a practical device for athletes and fitness buffs to help them maximize their daily active performance.

After years of using Whoop, there are a few things that stood out to me that the product is really good at. First of all, the depth of data and insights the fitness tracker gave me are by far some of the most useful. Ultimately, this focus on data helped me make informed decisions when it comes to my training and recovery process.

ALSO READ: WHOOP 4.0 REVIEW: IS IT REALLY THE BEST FITNESS TRACKER?

Second, the actionable insights Whoop gave me were beyond the numbers and graphs on the app. Whether I needed more sleep or ways to recover fast, Whoop gave me all the bits and pieces of information that did me a huge favor. And did I mention Whoop has one of the most supportive communities I’ve been in?

Disadvantages of Whoop

Despite being a robust health and wellness tracker, Whoop does come with a bunch of limitations that many users (including me) found inconvenient.

Battery Life

Whoop’s battery can last you for up to 5 days. Considering it doesn’t have a screen, this might not be the best battery life a fitness strap can give.

No Screen

Depending on how you view screens for fitness tracking, the absence of a screen display may be something you are not into or accustomed to. Some users prefer no screens at all to let them focus on the task at hand, while others are not comfortable not seeing real-time data from their watch faces.

ALSO READ: BEST SMART RINGS FOR SLEEP TRACKING

Subscription

Whoop’s subscription-based model is also a deal-break for many where you pay $30 monthly for 1 year, $239 upfront for 1 year, or $399 upfront for 2 years. After that, you need to renew your membership; otherwise, you will lose your data. This does not sit well with a lot of people, and it’s understandable.

No Playlist/Music Support

Whoop has no means to support your favorite playlists, so if you are someone who thrives with music or podcasts in your ear while training, Whoop might not be the one for you.

Choosing the Best Whoop Alternatives

Our top recommendations are not random by any means. We looked at the strengths and weaknesses of Whoop and ultimately figured out which wearable on the market can fill for its flaws and top (or at least match) what it currently does. Here are the criteria that we considered upon choosing the best alternatives to Whoop 4.0:

Features and Functionalities

Can it track activities, sleep, strain, and recovery? How good is it when it comes to executing these features and functionalities? We looked into data collection and accuracy when we came up with this list. Do note that form factors can have a difference in the way a device collects data.

ALSO READ: BEST SMART RINGS YOU CAN BUY

Form Factor

Speaking of form factor! Fitness trackers come in many forms—smartwatches, wristbands, and smart rings. The best alternatives to Whoop come in different forms. It’s also important to note that there are not a lot of alternatives that exactly look like Whoop. Therefore, you might need to explore wearable options outside of fitness straps.

Pricing

And of course, we are not wrapping this roundup without pricing considerations. It might not be the most important thing, but it’s also worth noting whether or not the Whoop alternatives are giving you the features you need for their price point.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 vs. Ultrahuman Ring Air
Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and Ultrahuman Ring Air are popular health wearables.

It could be an overstatement, but perhaps almost every person in the world knows about Samsung. You may be wrong if you think that this South Korean tech company is only about phones. Well, Samsung has a slew of products such as TVs and smart home appliances designed to revolutionize the way you live your life.

Another trending product that Samsung has is its Galaxy Watch 6. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, as its name implies, is part of the brand’s line of smartphones and smart devices. Particularly, this smartwatch is the newest in Samsung’s wearable series, loaded with features such as fitness and sleep tracking, as well as blood pressure and heart rate monitoring.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 vs. Ultrahuman Ring Air: Features and Functionalities

Sleep Tracking

If you need help with your sleep, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is the wearable to have. As Samsung says, “better days begin with better nights.”

This smartwatch will help you understand your nights, so you wake up more than ready each day. Wearing it, Galaxy Watch 6 will monitor your nightly sleep stage, as well as provide you with your sleep score and sleep consistency to aid you toward improving your sleep.

And that’s not all. Like other smartwatches from other brands, you also get access to Sleep Coaching right on your wrist, so you can get valuable tips related to your good night’s sleep.

If you want those features but want it less bulky and lighter, wear a smart ring like the Ultrahuman Ring Air. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, it also monitors your sleep stage and adds more, such as presenting your heart rate variability and tracking the temperature of your skin.

Sleep coaching? Ultrahuman does it in its own way, and perhaps with even more fun. It can advise you whether you should get more sunlight, stop drinking coffee, and so much more. It’s really hard to pick a winner.

Fitness Tracking

Aside from sleep tracking, many people invest in smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 for fitness tracking. Yes, this smartwatch is capable of tracking dozens of exercises and activities, including introducing new features specifically tailored for runners. Did we mention its fitness tracking features work in synergy with its sleep tracking prowess?

However, if you are a more serious athlete and an adventure seeker who needs more intricate and feature-specific training tools, the capabilities of Samsung’s newest smartwatch may be limited. Can the Ultrahuman Ring Air compensate?

The smart ring has a dedicated “Workout Mode,” which tracks various activities – just like how Samsung’s smartwatch does – giving its wearer a deeper insight into their overall workout metrics.

But what’s interesting is how it also tracks your heart rate during workouts. That way, you gain insights into your cardiovascular response, leading you to better decisions when it comes to improving your fitness routines and outcomes. You’ll learn more about that later.

Plus, it also guides you through your recovery period, so you are ready for your next workout. Which is better in fitness tracking? Your choice, actually.

Heart Rate Monitoring

Next up, heart rate monitoring. Samsung does well with its smartphones, so you can expect the same with its smartwatches. What’s great about the Galaxy Watch 6 is how it is equipped with a heart monitoring package that brings its wearer peace of mind, so they can focus on their daily tasks and activities.

The smartwatch monitors your heart rate via its built-in PPG sensor that periodically measures that rate and heart rhythm while wearing this smart device. More so, you also get alerts if your heart rate is too high or too low. Think of a quick response team.

Interestingly, the Ultrahuman Ring Air also makes use of a PPG sensor, thereby empowering you to stay on top of your body’s vitals, particularly your heart rate and heart rate variability.

Blood Oxygen Monitoring

Regarding blood oxygen monitoring, you can enable your Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 to measure your blood oxygen levels. It can also do blood oxygen readings while you are asleep. However, take note that the availability of this feature may vary by country or region.

Meanwhile, the Ultrahuman Ring Air makes use of the PPG sensor – the same sensor it has for monitoring your heart rate – to provide its wearer with some data about their blood oxygen saturation.

Samsung is also a smartphone brand, so there should be no wonder if it champions a well-designed display with its Galaxy Watch 6. The smartwatch is designed with a slimmer black margin, providing more space for a bigger screen.

Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is also redesigned with a trimmed-down watch form that makes it easier to wear.

Meanwhile, the Ultrahuman Ring Air does not have a screen or display. But everything you need and want to do with this smart ring is possible via its app.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 has an IP68 resistance rating, while that of the Ultrahuman Ring Air is IPX8.

A device with an IPX8 rating can survive while submerged in water, but it has not officially been rated from dust protection. Devices with an IP68 rating are protected from dust and can withstand being submerged in water.

Garmin Vivoactive 5 vs. Ultrahuman Ring Air: Features and Functionalities

Let’s compare the two devices based on four categories: sleep tracking, fitness tracking, heart rate monitoring, and blood oxygen monitoring.

Garmin Vivoactive 5 vs. Ultrahuman Ring Air Review
Garmin Vivoactive 5 and Ultrahuman Ring Air are two popular smart wearables on the market.

Sleep Tracking

First, Garmin Vivoactive 5’s sleep tracking capabilities. This smartwatch works like a sleep coach. Wearers, through this smartwatch, get their sleep scores, as well as personalized coaching to guide them on how much more sleep they need and how else they can improve. It also keeps track of your various sleep stages and naps, providing several other key metrics related to your sleep, such as heart rate variability (HRV) status, so you can understand your health better. And, as you wake up in the morning, you get a morning report, which informs you about your sleep, recovery, daily calendar, HRV status, and more.

Meanwhile, Ultrahuman Ring Air also has sleep-tracking features similar to Garmin Vivoactive 5. For one, it also correlates sleep data with the wearer’s HRV status. Furthermore, the smart ring also readies data about your sleep health that you’ll see as you wake up in the morning. It assesses your total sleep duration, resting heart rate, and restfulness, providing you with a clearer picture of the quality of your sleep.

Fitness Tracking

Garmin Vivoactive 5’s features for fitness are also powerful and promising. For instance, this smartwatch tracks all your movements with over 30 preloaded GPS and indoor sports apps, which include running, swimming, walking, cycling, and even activities for wheelchair users! Plus more. The smartwatch also gets in-depth as it studies how your workouts affect your body, plus how much time you still need to recover, gearing you up for your next fitness journey.

Meanwhile, some of Ultrahuman Ring Air’s features for fitness are somewhat similar to Garmin’s. For instance, it also helps you during your recovery periods, preparing you for your next activities. The ring presents a Recovery Score to help you plan your future activities. And it can do more. It presents a Movement Index that tracks how sedentary or active the wearer’s lifestyle is. A low score means you are living a sedentary life. High scores mean you are doing okay.

Heart Rate Monitoring

Garmin Vivoactive 5 has a very special way to monitor your heart rate. This smartwatch belongs to the line of Garmin devices that offer all-day insights based on heart monitoring data via the Garmin Elevate heart rate technology sensor. How about that?

The Garmin Elevate heart rate technology sensor is an optical PPG (photoplethysmography) sensor built into the rear end of the smartwatch. This sensor detects your heart rate by shining a green light through your skin. This way, the red cells in your blood vessels reflect the light, providing insights about your heart rate.

It is interesting to note that the Ultrahuman Ring Air also makes use of a PPG sensor, thereby helping the wearer stay ahead of their body’s vitals, specifically their heart rate and HRV. So, whichever of the two you choose, you’ll get the best.

Blood Oxygen Monitoring

Let’s start with the Garmin Vivoactive 5 smartwatch. It has a wrist-based pulse oximeter capable of gauging your blood’s oxygen saturation. It doesn’t rest. It tracks this all day, whether you are wide awake or in deep sleep.

For the Ultrahuman Ring Air, it is a different story. It utilizes its PPG sensor – the same sensor it uses for heart rate monitoring – to provide you with data about your blood oxygen saturation.

The Apple Watch SE 2 and Ultrahuman Ring Air are two popular health companions. But which one is right for you?

Wondering which health and fitness wearable is better for you? In this Apple Watch SE 2 vs. Ultrahuman Ring Air review, we shed light on the differences between the two on the health and fitness front.

Several brands of smartwatches are on the market, but perhaps one of the most popular would be Apple’s. Their midrange smartwatch lineup—the Apple Watch SE—is an impressive device with all the basic health-tracking functionalities you need.

On the other hand, the Ultrahuman Ring Air is one of the leading health smart rings available. In general, it does the same things as the Apple Watch SE 2 in terms of its health-related features, except it is a ring. It comes from Ultrahuman, a health-tech company headquartered in India.

In this review, let’s take a closer look at the Apple Watch SE 2 and place it side by side with the Ultrahuman Ring Air. We’re comparing these two smart devices mainly in terms of sleep tracking, fitness tracking, heart rate monitoring, and blood oxygen monitoring, as well as regarding their design, battery life, water protection, and prices. Let’s get to it.

Apple Watch SE 2 vs. Ultrahuman Ring Air Quick Comparison

Apple Watch SE 2 vs. Ultrahuman: Features and Functionalities

Sleep Tracking

On the sleep tracking front, the Apple Watch SE 2 and Ultrahuman Ring Air are neck and neck.

Apple’s smartwatch offers advanced sleep tracking, allowing you to view the sleep data it has collected through your iPhone’s Health app. These sleep data include your total sleep time, awake time, and how long you have spent in the different stages of your sleep. It also tracks your breathing rate while you’re asleep, and allows you to set your sleep goals.

How about the Ultrahuman Ring Air? Well, Ultrahuman brands its device as “the world’s lightest sleep tracking wearable.” One of its highly lauded features is its sleep tracking. It tracks the sleep stages—awake, REM, light, and deep—and presents your data including other important sleep metrics such as heart rate variability (HRV) and skin temperature.

Although skin temperature does not always represent your body temperature, which is a really useful metric for telling the state of your body’s recovery and stress, it is close to a medical-grade body temperature sensor.

In addition, Ultrahuman Ring Air makes recommendations based on your circadian rhythm or your 24-hour internal clock and the time of day. For instance, it advises you whether you should get more sunlight in the morning, stop drinking coffee beyond a certain time, and more. This is something that the Apple Watch SE 2 may not provide.

Fitness Tracking

One of the functionalities that Apple’s smartwatches have nailed right on the head is in the fitness tracking department. Using the Workout app, you can toggle on with this smartwatch highlights the workouts you do often. The watch also shows you your heart rate, active calorie burn, and time elapsed. If you need music for your workout, it’s just a swipe away. Also, GPS connects in the background without having you wait, all for a seamless walk, run, or cycle.

Meanwhile, the Ultrahuman Ring Air also allows you to log your workout. But this smart ring goes above and beyond by doing things that are not present with the smartwatch.

For instance, it presents your Recovery Score to help you plan your next physical activity. A lower score means you must take it easier with your workouts, and a higher score means you can freely try for your personal best, such as whether you’re at the gym or running outdoors.

Also, it presents a Movement Index that tracks how sedentary your lifestyle is. Low scores mean your life is sedentary—like sitting by your desk all day—and high scores mean you’re doing good.

Heart Rate Monitoring

The Apple Watch’s SE 2’s heart rate sensor, unfortunately, does not have an electrocardiogram feature. But don’t fret because this smartwatch still provides notifications for abnormally high or low heart rates, and its data is very accurate.

On the other hand, the Ultrahuman Ring Air has been impressing its users as it is equipped with a PPG sensor. This empowers you to stay ahead of your body’s vitals, specifically your heart rate and heart rate variability. PPG, or photoplethysmography, is a simple optical technique that detects volumetric changes in the person’s blood in the peripheral circulation. It is a non-invasive method that does measurements at your skin’s surface.

Sadly, the Apple Watch SE 2 does not feature blood oxygen monitoring. How about the Ultrahuman Ring Air? Yes, it does. It utilizes the same PPG sensor for heart rate monitoring to provide the wearer information about their blood oxygen saturation.

Design

When it comes to design, choosing between the Apple Watch SE 2 and Ultrahuman Ring Air boils down to preference. If you want a dedicated health-tracking companion, the smart ring could be the perfect choice here as it’s more comfortable to wear, especially at night during sleep. However, if you value a more versatile wearable, the Apple Watch SE 2 is clearly the winner in this category.

The Apple Watch SE 2 is made from aluminum and follows the shapes and sizes of other smartwatches by Apple, such as the first-generation Watch SE, Series 4, Series 5, and Series 6.

On the other hand, the Ultrahuman Ring Air is simplistic. As a smart ring, it is 11 times lighter than the smartwatch. So, if you don’t mind ditching the display screen, choose a smart ring.

Do you want a robust fitness tracking device that can also be sleep tracking and everyday use? The Apple Watch SE 2 could be what you’re looking for.

Torn between Oura Ring and Google Pixel Watch 2? In this Oura vs. Google Pixel Watch 2 review, we broke down the similarities and differences of two of the most well-rounded sleep trackers.

Google is a big name in the technology industry. Aside from being the search engine you know about, this company also has a slew of other helpful products, such as phones, tablets, watches, and even cars. But in the health wearable space, Google is proud of its Google Pixel Watch 2, a smartwatch that doesn’t just tell time, but also can track your heart rate and skin temperature, as well as track your sleep and help you manage your stress.

No wonder several people patronize this product by Google. However, there are also other brands that offer devices that provide those features. Albeit not as huge as Google, they also make a mark in the industry. One of them is Oura, a health wearable company based in Finland. Its smart ring tracks your sleep and physical activities. But, it has many other features, too.

In this comparison review, we will place Oura Ring and Google Pixel Watch 2 side by side in terms of various features. At the end of the piece, you will know which is better for your needs, mainly on the sleep tracking front.

Oura vs. Google Pixel Watch 2: Features and Functionalities

Sleep Tracking

Let’s start with a major reason why people buy smartwatches or smart rings: sleep tracking. The Oura Ring is engineered to place accurate sleep insights as their top priority. It delivers research-quality data validated against polysomnography or the gold standard in sleep lab tests.

In this regard, one of the best functionalities of the smart ring is analyzing your sleep stages. The ring leverages your movement and changes in your heart rate, temperature, and respiration to determine how well you sleep in each stage.

The sleep tracking capabilities of Google Pixel Watch 2 is somewhat different. The smartwatch does it alongside other functionalities. For instance, it has a dedicated sensor that monitors variations in your sleeping skin temperature. It also tracks and reports your blood oxygen saturation after a sleep spanning over three hours.

Fitness Tracking

You may have seen people change from their casual wristwatches, or rings, to smart devices as soon as they start working out. Yes, smart devices like the Oura Ring and Google Pixel Watch 2 can also track your fitness.

The Oura Ring presents you with their activity score to make sure their activities, inactivities, and rest periods are proper. It also presents a readiness score to ensure they give themselves sufficient time to rest and recover, gearing them up for the next workout or sports activity.

On the other hand, Google Pixel Watch 2’s fitness tracking prowess works in synergy with its other features like heart rate monitoring. Particularly, it has Heart Rate Zone coaching and Pace Training features that can help you stay on track as you reach your workout goals. The watch will alert you to a change in your heart rate zone during an HIIT workout, and provide real-time feedback on your pace goals when you are engaged in a marathon.

Which one should you get–Oura Ring and Google Pixel Watch 2?

Heart Rate Monitoring

The foremost feature of the Oura Ring in terms of heart rate monitoring is Live Heart Rate. This allows you to check in with your body anytime. Tap the ring once and you get immediate feedback on your current heart rate. But remember, this feature is only available so far on the Oura Ring Gen3.

Meanwhile, Google Pixel Watch 2 monitors your heart rate 24/7. What’s more, unlike the Oura Ring, it utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to provide more accurate heart rate tracking. Something to look forward to.

Blood Oxygen Monitoring

How about the blood oxygen monitoring functionalities of these two devices? Well, the Oura Ring does it this way. Unlike smartwatches, the ring measures blood oxygen at the base of the finger, where it is worn, and where your blood vessel walls are slightly thicker. In this area, blood circulation is also more concentrated, paving the way for distinctive readings.

On the other hand, the Google Pixel Watch 2 does not independently measure blood oxygen saturation. But, it does have this function. Instead, it tracks blood oxygen overnight while you are asleep, alongside your overnight skin temperature. Still does it in harmony with its other features.

Oura vs. Google Pixel Watch 2: Specs and Design

Design

Worn like the usual ring, but functions like a beast, the Oura Ring is not merely a fashion statement. Its design is elegant and subtle and binds fashion and function effortlessly.

Meanwhile, like the Oura Ring, the Google Pixel Watch 2 is also designed for all-day and all-night wear. Its housing is made from 100 percent recycled aluminum. So, it is comfortable to wear even when you are sleeping. For easier access and navigation, its crown is bigger and more flush with its circular silhouette.

Battery Life

The Oura Ring’s battery life is up to seven days. It also charges very quickly.

Google Pixel Watch 2’s battery life, on the other hand, is also rooted in its quad-core CPU, giving it 24 hours of battery life even if you have it always on.

Charging the smartwatch is also fast and easy. This powers it with 50 percent in just 30 minutes! Designed for the on-the-go lifestyle.

Water Protection

The Oura Ring is water-resistant up to 100 meters. You can still wear it while showering, swimming, or snorkeling, except when scuba diving.

Google Pixel Watch 2 is also water-resistant. It can be submerged in up to around a meter of water for up to about 30 minutes. Overall, 50 meters. Have it with you while showering, washing dishes, running in the rain, and swimming. It won’t get damaged.

Oura Ring vs. Fitbit Versa 4
Which should you choose between Oura Ring and Fitbit Versa 4?

Fitness Tracking

The fitness tracking capabilities of both the Fitbit Versa 4 and Oura Ring are noteworthy. Fitbit Versa 4, being a smartwatch, boasts a comprehensive suite of sensors, including accelerometers and a gyroscope, ensuring accurate tracking of various activities such as walking, running, and cycling. The Oura Ring, while not as feature-rich in activity tracking, shines in its focus on sleep tracking and readiness metrics, offering a nuanced approach to overall well-being.

Heart Rate Monitoring

Heart rate monitoring is a pivotal feature for gauging cardiovascular health. Fitbit Versa 4 employs optical and electrical heart rate sensors, providing real-time data and detecting irregular rhythms, potentially indicative of underlying health issues. The Oura Ring, although not as sophisticated as Fitbit, utilizes photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors, guaranteeing medical-grade ECG accuracy for heart rate and variability metrics.

Sleep Tracking

The Oura Ring takes the lead in sleep tracking, offering a comprehensive set of metrics that includes total sleep time, sleep stages (REM, deep, light), and resting heart rate. Fitbit Versa 4, introduced sleep tracking with watchOS 7, but its capabilities are limited compared to the Oura Ring. Oura’s detailed sleep insights provide users with a profound understanding of their sleep patterns, aiding in the pursuit of better sleep quality.

Blood Oxygen Monitoring

Blood oxygen monitoring (SpO2) has become a crucial feature, especially in light of current global health concerns. Fitbit Versa 4 incorporates this feature seamlessly, providing users with insights into their blood oxygen levels. The Oura Ring, while planning to introduce this feature in 2022, showcases a commitment to staying at the forefront of health monitoring, ensuring users are equipped with the latest tools for their well-being.

Stress Management

Stress management is an integral aspect of modern wearables, and both devices offer tools to assess and alleviate stress. Fitbit Versa 4 provides guided breathing exercises and stress level tracking, empowering users to manage their stress effectively. Oura Ring, while not explicitly offering stress management features, indirectly addresses stress through its comprehensive sleep and readiness metrics, acknowledging the interconnectedness of stress with sleep and overall health.

Design

The physical design of a wearable device plays a crucial role in user experience and comfort. The Fitbit Versa 4, being a smartwatch, features a larger display screen that allows for a more interactive and visually engaging experience. Oura Ring, on the other hand, maintains a minimalist and inconspicuous design, resembling a traditional ring. The choice between the two designs depends on individual preferences – whether one prioritizes a discreet form factor or desires the additional functionality of a larger display.

Battery Life

Battery life is a significant consideration, especially for those who prefer devices that require minimal charging. Oura Ring emerges as the winner in this category, offering an impressive 4-7 days of usage on a single charge. The efficiency of Oura Ring’s battery life is attributed to its minimalist design and focus on specific health metrics. In contrast, the Fitbit Versa 4, being a smartwatch with a more extensive range of features, requires daily charging, lasting up to 18 hours.

Water Protection

For individuals engaged in water-related activities, the water resistance of a wearable device is paramount. Oura Ring takes the lead in this department, offering waterproof capabilities up to 100 meters. This makes it suitable for activities such as swimming and diving, providing users with the flexibility to wear the device in various settings. Fitbit Versa 4, while water-resistant and suitable for swimming and showering, does not match the level of protection offered by Oura Ring, especially in activities involving prolonged submersion.

RingConn vs. Apple Watch Series 9–which is the best health monitoring device?

RingConn and Apple Watch Series 9 may be two very different wearable devices, but they do have several functionalities in common. If you are looking for a health monitoring wearable device, these two are great options. But how do they stack up against each other? In this RingConn vs. Apple Watch Series 9 review, we compare and contrast these two to help you decide.

RingConn is a health smart ring that started as a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in 2019 and first came out in January 2023. It tracks sleep, activities, heart rates, blood oxygen saturation, and periods.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is the tech giant’s 2023 flagship smartwatch that boasts a slew of health functionalities, including tracking sleep, activities, and heart rates. And with the help of third-party apps, it can also track periods, stress, and blood oxygen saturation.

RingConn vs. Apple Watch Series 9: Features and Functionalities

RingConn vs. Apple Watch Series 9 review
RingConn (left) and Apple Watch Series 9 (right)

Sleep Tracking

First off, sleep tracking is something you would want to have from a wearable device. The good news is that both the Apple Watch Series 9 and RingConn have solid sleep tracking capabilities.

RingConn can automatically track your sleep—from the moment you turn in until you wake up. Sleep metrics RingConn records include sleep duration, sleep stages (light, REM, and deep sleep), resting heart rate, body temperature, and sleep time ratio. At the end of your sleep, you get a sleep score based on how well you slept the night before. Aside from the mentioned sleep metrics, RingConn takes note of your activities the previous day to give you an idea of how your body has recovered.

With the Apple Watch Series 9, it can automatically track your sleep or switch it to sleep focus in order to activate sleep tracking. It does keep tabs on your sleep stages (REM, core, and deep sleep) and breathing rate during sleep. In addition, the smartwatch allows you to create sleep schedules and sleep goals. Do note that the Apple Watch Series 9 only records sleep when it’s at least 4 hours each night.

Nevertheless, both wearables allow you to see your sleep trends.

Activity Tracking

A robust activity tracking functionality is a must for fitness enthusiasts. Both RingConn and the Apple Watch Series 9 can automatically track your steps, walking distance, and calorie burn.

The Apple Watch Series 9 can also record flights climbed. And it has several activity tracking features you will love. The fitness rings feature is one I adore in particular, giving you a complete picture of how much you move, exercise, and stand. You also get activity trends.

Meanwhile, despite its small form factor, RingConn’s 3-axis accelerometer is accurate enough to automatically detect activities, whether you are cycling, skiing, running, or swimming. It also uses your basal metabolic rate (BMR) or resting metabolism rate (RMR), which is the number of calories you burn as your body does basic activities like lying in bed or driving, on top of your active metabolic rate.

ALSO READ: FITBIT CHARGE 5 VS. OURA RING 3: WHICH IS MORE ADVANCED HEALTH AND FITNESS TRACKER?

Heart Rate Monitoring

Tracking heart rates has a lot of uses for health devices. Heart rates are pivotal for monitoring and managing sleep, activities, recovery, and even stress, and that’s why it has to be done right.

RingConn uses heart rate variability (HRV) for stress management, giving users a clear picture of their day-to-day stressors and physical and mental well-being. It also uses HRV and resting heart rate (RHR) for your sleep, allowing you to see the quality of your nightly rests. It also uses continuous heart rate tracking for your daily activities.

With the Apple Watch Series 9, your heart rate monitoring is made possible with the heart rate app, which gives you metrics like resting, walking, breathing, workout, and recovery heart rates. The thing that edges RingConn out, or any smart ring for that matter, is the ability to notify users when their heart rate drops or goes beyond normal (irregular heart rhythm). For active people or users with heart problems, this is very useful and cannot be underestimated.

The Outliers

There are lovely features we would like to have from wearable devices. One of them is recovery monitoring. Unfortunately, both RingConn and the Apple Watch Series 9 don’t have anything that particularly helps you keep track of your recovery.

Despite having all the necessary sensors and tracking recovery-based metrics like resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and skin/body temperature, these devices lack the recovery management functionality that most smart rings have, including the Ultrahuman Ring Air and Oura Ring.

RingConn vs. Apple Watch Series 9: Specs and Design

RingConn is made of titanium—a material known to be very durable—and coated with PVD. The inner molding is made of epoxy resin, which is non-allergenic. The smart ring weighs 3-5 grams, depending on the size. It looks bigger than regular rings.

RingConn can survive up to 7 days and up to 150 days with the help of the charging case, and each charge takes 2 hours. In terms of protection, RingConn has not been certified for ingress protection but the company claims it can withstand water up to 50 meters.

The Apple Watch Series has a 1.9-inch Retina OLED touchscreen display with 484 x 396 resolution. The screen is brighter up to 2000 nits, perfect for people who are always out in the sun. The battery life can last up to 18 hours with regular use. It’s certified to IP6X standards and can be used up to 50 meters underwater.
