Ring 211 Holiday Party

T’was the night exactly three weeks after Christmas and all through the house not a mouse was stirring, except at a Chinese/Japanese buffet restaurant where Ring 211 held its annual Holiday Party. After a delicious filling dinner, eight of our members performed strolling close-up table to table mimicking what happens at our Hocus Pocus parties. A few members wanted this type of program because they wanted to see what they miss because of doing the strolling. The following members performed: Gil Scott, Bill Rasmussen, Wayne Ramsdell, Peter Stobie, Charles Bennett, Ron Carnell, Dr. Jack Vander Wal, and Randy Vander Wal.

img_1221Gil Scott amused people with Jumping Coins, Charming Chinese Miracle, and Stand Up Monte. Bill Rasmussen baffled us with Rising Card, $ MMM Million Dollar Monte, Different Deck, “listening” to the deck to determine chosen cards, and Royal Flush. Wayne Ramsdell intrigued us with a Colombini routine called “1 – 23,” a three card monte, and One of Thirteen Precious Stones Selection Prediction. Peter Stobie amazed with a few coin sleights, freaked many with his Battery Recharged, and amazed us with a ring and rope penetration and a burnt match in hand vanish done to a poem made popular by Gene Anderson. Charles Bennett surprised us with a “truth or lies” card routine and followed with The Trick That Cannot Be Explained. Ron Carnell impressed us with a variation on Al Schneider’s Love Matrix. Dr. Jack Vander Wal performed with appeal, Cataclysm. Randy presented the vanish of two Chinese coins to the appearance of a miniature nun and a Svengali Deck routine.

img_1269After the magic, there was a “white elephant” gift exchange. President Michele Parkes read a poem which told each “numbered” person when to choose a gift. Then according to where and when in the poem that person could keep the gift or had to switch it with one or more persons. At the end, I doubt anyone had the original gift they opened. Also, each member received a metal business card holder with the name of the Ring.

What a fun holiday party. We thank Prez Michele for her work designing this party and all our performers. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year! Our friends of Ring 54 are hosting Michigan Magic Day 2012 in Lansing on April 20 and 21. Check out the talent and all details at http://www.michiganmagicday.com.

  1. Wonderful evening! Thank you to all the performers and Prez Michele for a great evening of entertainment. It was good to see everyone. See you at the January 23rd meeting and if you haven’t signed up to perform something you learned in the last 6 months there are still a few slots available. 🙂 Pete
